"The Wall" Entrance and
exit to the Gordon River
We cast small Tom's
Tantrums, Tom's Temptations, and some Wool-Head Baitfish flies . Tarpon
were feeding eagerly and I hooked one. Snook, Jacks, Spanish
Mackerel, Lady Fish....all the bigger fish were eating small
Silversides. Birds were all around and were gorging on the leftovers.
This was truly a fantastic sight of nature....and to be casting here was
a dream.

Tom caught fish, I
caught fish, we lost count. After the waters settled down into the slack
tide, the fish disappeared so Tom went exploring the low-water tidal
coves towards Dollar Bay and South. We saw several wild Pigs nosing the
mud for clams and crabs, we saw a few other boaters, several Osprey and
met up with one of Tom's students, another terrific young guide,
Capt. Jeff Legutki. Tom poled his Hewes
Skiff so quietly and expertly, I couldn't believe it. |
Captain Tom Shadley has
been fly fishing and guiding Naples waters for over a decade. He teaches
fly tying and rod building at his shop,
Mangrove Outfitters and I often help out at the shop when
things get busy. Tom invited me out for a morning's exploration and
after we fly cast some dock lights and landed a small Snook, it was time
to check out "The Wall".

Captain Tom Shadley

I had a great time. If
you plan a Naples fly fishing vacation I can recommend
Capt. Tom Shadley. |
