Keep It Simple

From Mid-October until the end of April,
South West Florida fly fishing is as demanding of you as it is
rewarding. The long casts and often windy conditions make the "double
haul" an absolute requirement. But once mastered, this cast delivers the
fly to the target rapidly and accurately. I've taught quite a few
casters to learn to 'haul' and although the double haul requires
practice just like any other cast, it is relatively easy to master.
Essentials include good wading foot
gear. Although it's possible to get by with just a pair of old sneakers,
I'd recommend a pair of wading booties. I wear flats booties and they help keep the mud and debris away from the soles of my feet.
They are a good investment.
You also need a hat,
Polarized Sunglasses and some sunscreen, especially if you're
light-skinned and prone to sunburn.

All of the above are Essential. The rod should be a 7,
8,or 9 and stiff is often better than full-flex because of the wind. Use
floating line is the norm. I can teach
you the knots and supply the flies.
